The Martial Renaissance

The Martial Renaissance is a non-profit consortium of positive role models who wants to help improve the lives of children here in B’more, DC, and beyond. Many of them want to give back to the communty… and many are doing so – albeit alone… and with minimum impact on their target audience.

By joining forces to contribute to the lives of children through the neighborhood organizations where they learn and play, we will help schools, churches, recreation centers and many other community-based organizations promote a core set of values that will be reinforced everywhere the child goes… to increase the liklihood of positive and long-term behavior changes.  Remember, kids have short attention spans… and to promote lasting change, we have to reinforce a good message over and over again.

Our goal is to cultivate strong and enduring relationships between positive role models from the local martial arts community and neighborhoods they serve, while providing a highly effective platform for values education and healthy lifestyle interventions for our youth.  In this way, we will create stronger, safer and healthier children, families and communities.

Remember, the martial arts are the only institution in the world that have been universally embraced by all cultures, races, nationalities, religions, education and income levels as an effective means to teach children the values that are essential to creating a successful, productive life – and the Martial Renaissance is the key.

The “Legends of Kali” 

In Spring 2005, the “Legends of Kali”, Grandtuhon Leo T. Gaje Jr., and Guro Dan Inosanto(Bruce Lee’s closest friend, sparring partner and seniorstudent) introduced Kali  – in its “purest” form, to a select group of practitioners in North America.  This event marked the first time in FMA/FFA history that these “Legends” have joined forces to provide an accelerated training program in the Fighting Arts.
